First up was a three-night preview party on Royal Caribbean’s new ship, the Utopia of the Seas. This event was an exclusive industry gathering, where we were among the first to experience the ship’s amenities, from tasting the food at various restaurants to exploring the cabins. It was a whirlwind of activity, but incredibly valuable for understanding what the ship offers our clients.
Following the Utopia event, I headed straight to the GTM conference in Fort Lauderdale, an invitation-only event for top travel agents and agencies. This back-to-back schedule was intense, requiring careful planning, from packing multiple suitcases to managing logistics between events. But it’s all part of the job’s excitement—immersing oneself in the travel industry’s latest and greatest offerings.
A Glimpse into a Busy Travel Day
To give you a better idea of what a day at an event like the Utopia preview looks like, here’s a breakdown of my schedule:
- 6:30 AM: Early rise to explore the ship and collect content. This quiet time is perfect for capturing photos and videos without crowds.
- 9:30 AM: Official tours of the ship’s suites, followed by a lunch that doubles as a time to assess the dining options.
- Afternoon: Time to explore the spa and participate in various onboard activities, ensuring we understand the full range of experiences available to clients.
- Evening: Dinner with a Royal Caribbean representative, a fantastic opportunity to network and deepen our understanding of the product.
These days are packed with activities, but they are crucial for gaining firsthand knowledge that helps us provide the best advice to our clients.
The Home Office Routine
When not attending events, the day-to-day life of a travel agent can be quite different, especially for those running a home-based business. One of the most liberating aspects of this career is the flexibility to set your schedule. Here’s a look at a typical home office day:
- 6:30 AM: Start the day with an “abundance routine,” a 30-minute session focused on goal setting, mindset, and planning.
- 8:00 – 10:00 AM: Administrative time, including checking on clients, responding to emails, and managing new leads. This time is crucial for setting up the day’s tasks and ensuring smooth operations.
- 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Client calls, meetings, and any urgent tasks that need addressing. This block of time is where the bulk of client interactions and travel planning occur.
The beauty of this career is the ability to balance work and personal life, making time for family and other commitments while running a successful business.
